A fallen star ⭐

When I came to see you that evening,
I didn’t expect it’d be the last time we’d be convening,
When you strained to talk to me,
I held back my words because hearing you trying too hard was something I didn’t want to see.

I knew there would be a next time for me to say some of the things I had to say,
But little did I know that all my words and plans would end on that day,
I thought there was still time to listen to your voice,
But it all ended up drowned by the grieving noise.

When I look at your bed and blanket,
And see your favourite jacket,
It makes me think that you’re off to one of your short trips to the market,
Only to be hit hard by the reality that you’re off to a heavenly banquet.

This journey of no return is a hard pill to swallow,
And it hurts more that what separates us is a grave so shallow,
If I could turn back time I’d visit you more often,
And all the hard hits life has thrown at me you’d slowly soften.

Although I knew that one day I’d be losing you,
Things happening so fast and soon is something I never knew,
Seeing the smile on your face slowly disappear ripped my heart,
And watching you get weaker made me extremely hurt.

Dani, I promise to try to focus on the good memories,
And keep the love you gave me alive for centuries,
I appreciate you being the best grandmother,
And to my kids I promise to try to be a grand mother.

Your hugs and prayers will be greatly missed,
And so will your delicious recipes with an African twist,
As you walk through the gates of heaven full of glory,
May you watch over us as we walk through our life story.

Even though you are a fallen star,
I know you’re glowing from afar,
May you continue to shine and live on,
Till the day we meet on the other side of the river at dawn.
